Behold... The Pink Palace!

Browsing through "Hollywood at Home" by Architectural Digest I came across this gem, Jayne Mansfield's "Pink Palace" in Bel-Air. Nothing new, but its new to me! This place is so bad I can't look away. I can see where Anna Nicole and Bobby Trendy drew their inspiration.

Pink Palace

Exterior of the pink Spanish/Southern Mediterranean-style mansion on Sunset Boulevard. It contained 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms, dining room, bar, library, and wine-cellar. There was also a 3-bedroom staff suite and guest house on the property. The actress had the entire place -from the surrounding walls to the actual mansion they enclosed- painted baby pink and sprinkled with the powder of crushed sandstone.

The staircase of Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay's home was decorated with her magazine covers.

The indoor fountain near the window was equipped to circulate champagne. The lettering in the arabesque above the living room fireplace commemorated her marriage to Hargitay, who did much of the handiwork in the house. Her favored motif, hearts, was quilted into the purple sofas.

The savvy bombshell wrote to over 1,500 furniture and building suppliers asking for free samples to decorate her home in exchange for promotional appearances and bragging rights. She scored over $150,000 in goods for her $76,000 mansion. The price of an average house at the time was $7,000.

Jayne had Hollywood's first-ever Heart-shaped pool, complete with matching Jacuzzi. Mickey had "I Love You Jaynie" written on the bottom in gold-leaf mosaic.

Sadly, it was demolished in 2002.

More uploads from my style file

After a year living in Germany, I've really started missing the whole laid back West-coast, MCM vibe. Just looking at those palm trees and sunny pool makes me wistful. Its been a dark, cold winter and its looking at beautiful sunny homes like Michael Maloney's (below) that help.

Tebe Intereseno's Magical World

I think I spent a combined 10 minutes staring at these. Then I noticed a few were animated and returned to each one to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I realized what I love about these, are they make me remember what it was like to be a kid and how children see the world. They are imaginative and magical and cute without being cutesy.
